Aloha Council Members,
I am writing in support of actions being put in place to protect the people of Hawaii County
from injury and death due to traffic related situations.
A few years ago I was hit by a truck,then it ran over me. I was a visible pedestrian! I am still
impacted by the event.
Sadly parking lots in Hawaii County have no regulations. It is absurd to look at the increasing
regulations imposed upon private land and home owners.for dwelling construction while
public spaces have no regulatuion.
After I was run over, I was confined to a wheel chair and then walker. Kea'au town center
parking lot was/is a nightmare. Not only is there no safe place for children and high risk
populations to safely walk to do commerce,the lot itself is not ADA compliant.
Sadly many accidents occur there and are not reported due to uninsured motorists. This is a
reality in our County.
Please do what you can to protect the public, mandate that any new business locations must
comply with strict/ADA safety laws. Colaboarate with the State to develop standards. There
are none.

You might want to sit in Keeau town center right after food stamps are issued, school is just
let out and its busy. Watch the traffic patterns. You might want to walk to the store and back
L as well.
Now sit in a wheelchair and transverse it. Push a baby stroller while holding onto a toddler.
Imagine a slow moving senior with a hearing lose trying to do the same.Now imagine these
folks as members of your nucleur family.
This is not unique to Kea'au.
