Tax Administrator Subject: Tax Board of Review Nomination The Chairman of the Tax Board of Review, Roy Forbes, has directed me to send a letter to you and fully explain the nature of the work required of the tax board members. First, it must be clearly explained that this board is not ceremonial in nature. There are 16 meetings aleady scheduled for the 93-44 tax year and additional meetings will be required to dispose of all appeal cases. An additional six to ten meetings may be required. The board meets every Tuesday from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. All of the members are expected to attend each of the sessions. Some of the case hearings are scheduled in West Hawaii to accommodate the property owners from the West Hawaii area. The board travels to Rona on Monday morning and returns to Hilo on Wednesday afternoon. The case hearings last the entire day and often times end after 4:30 pm. They usually spend Monday and Tuesday night at the Ring Ram hotel and start case hearings early on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings. At the moment two trips are scheduled for the Rona area. Roy Forbes is concerned that the nominee is not fully apprised of the duties and responsibilities before the nomination which creates problems for the other board members later on. Please be sure to explain the nature and the amount of work required of the tax board member before the nomination. cc: Roy Forbes, Chairman, Tax Board of Review 3.6'7; ooZ, Comm.
