Aloha Council Member,
I am writing to express that you should oppose Bill 16 for the Pi'ilani Partners bottling plant.
Water, a public trust resource, would be taken from a deep, untouched aquifer, despite the
objections of native Hawaiian leaders and dozens of testifiers. The water would be shipped "
off-island to profit a few people.
Pi'ilani would extract up to 200,000 gallons a day. It could use'three bottlefuls of water to
produce one finished bottle of water. Much of the waste water from production would be
contaminated and discarded. Fossil fuel would be burned to run the plant and transport the
water. Plastic dust may contaminate the soil around the plant and spread by wind. And the
noise from delivery trucks and industrial bottling would disturb peaceful Wailoa Park nearby.
We live in a capitalistic world, yet many people only think of how they can profit from these
sort of business deals, while the air, soil, and water will be negatively affected which can then
only have a negative effect on the health and well-being of the humans and other species that
live here. Think about how this bottling plant could negatively affect your health and the
health of your loved ones.
As Hawai'i Island already has several bottling plants, I respectfully request that you oppose
Bill 16 for the Pi'ilani Partners bottling plant.
