aloha returning&new big island county council members!
happy 2019! :)
here is my testimony regarding bill 16 for tuesday february 19th's meeting.
please let it be known that i,my family,&local big island neighbors STRONGLY OPPOSE allowing the pi'ilani
partners(or any other company)to utilize ANY of this island's precious water resources as a private commercial
enterprise.
our aquifer,our water,are resources of this county,this island,this state...to be utilized specifically by residents of
hawaii and preserved for generations to come+the health of our community,both human&marine.
pumping 200,000 gallons a day from deep,untouched aquifer to sell mostly off-island would be a BREACH of
public trust.water is a public trust resource,NEVER to be used for private gain or part of a disturbing move towards
privatizing water worldwide.
what's next,bottling&exporting fresh air?
aquifer water migrates to the ocean,carrying nutrients that affect marine life.any decrease or stoppage of flow
would have a negative impact...&with our oceans already so beleaguered,this ecosystem does NOT need one more
careless human blow.
well-drilling is likely to cause underground salt water contamination of the aquifer.&bottling water generates more
plastic waste(up to over 1 million new plastic bottles a day,i am told!).plus production plants consume fossil fuel,
generate greenhouse gases&add unneeded noise pollution:
*plastic dust may contaminate soil around the plant and be spread by wind.
*noisy delivery trucks and industrial bottling would disturb the peaceful Wailoa Park area,
*and if pi'ilani street got upgraded with extended sewer lines,even more development could be attracted to this
same area in the future. :(
ALL IN ALL:A TOTALLY BAD IDEA!
it is my understanding that a mere 3 people supported the bottling plant idea at various recent planning commission
meetings,and that there was only 1 hydrologist supplying information...of these individuals,all 4 are being PAID by
pi'ilani partners.
meanwhile,DOZENS of actual big island residents OPPOSE it.
please decline the proposed pi'ilani water bottling bill.
