Funds will be used by the Hawai`i County Police Department for the purpose of working cooperatively with neighborhood watch programs. Enclosed is a resolution to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawai`i Department of the Attorney General Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Division to accept these funds. Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating this $50,000 grant. The Police request that this bill be waived from the Finance Committee and be placed on the March 13, 2019 Council agenda in order to expedite the receipt of these funds. REQUEST: This is a request to enter into an agreement with the State Department of the Attorney General Crime Prevention and Justice Assistance Division for the purpose of preserving the Spirit of Aloha in Hawaii County. The Hawaii Police Department will work cooperatively with Neighborhood Watch programs to educate, report and prevent criminal activities. To enhance and strengthen the existing partnership to lower crime in their respective communities. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED): The Hawaii County Police Department thru this grant would enhance and strengthen the existing partnership to lower crime in their respective communities. The Community Policing Division will take on, along with Neighborhood Watch educating community members on how to identify, report and prevent criminal activity' in their respectiwheighborhoods.
