• <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII •(A M! •: STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 87 19 <br /> A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION OF A <br /> MURAL TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION. <br /> WHEREAS, Temple Children is an arts and sustainability organization that strengthens <br /> communities and activates conversation, collaboration, and positive change; and <br /> WHEREAS, Temple Children will be donating a mural titled"Above and Beneath," <br /> valued at$15,000, to the Department of Parks and Recreation; and <br /> WHEREAS,the ten-foot by 300-foot mural was created by artist David `MEGGS' <br /> Hooke, and painted in collaboration with community; and <br /> WHEREAS, the mural depicts photographs captured by Andrew Richard Hara during <br /> the 2018 Kilauea eruption; and <br /> WHEREAS, the mural will enhance the appearance of the Pahoa District Park Pool and <br /> serve as a resounding symbol of the community's strength and resiliency; and <br /> WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawai`i County Charter provides that <br /> the Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts of donations of money, securities or other <br /> personal property or of real estate or any interest iri real estate, and Chapter 2,Article 30, Section <br /> 2-162 (a) of the Hawai`i County Code states that any gifts or donations of money, securities, or <br /> personal property which fall within the capitalization procedures of the Department of Finance, <br /> may be accepted by resolution approved by the Council; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Department of Parks and Recreation has reviewed this proposal for a <br /> mural and believes that it is in the public's best interest to accept this donation for the Pahoa <br /> District Park Pool; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that in <br /> accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawai`i County Charter, and Chapter 2, <br /> Article 30, Section 2-162(a) of the Hawai`i County Code,the Council of the County of Hawai`i <br /> accepts this donation. <br />
