• COUNTY OF HAWAII •(A M! •: STATE OF HAWAII RESOLUTION NO. 87 19 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A DONATION OF A MURAL TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS AND RECREATION. WHEREAS, Temple Children is an arts and sustainability organization that strengthens communities and activates conversation, collaboration, and positive change; and WHEREAS, Temple Children will be donating a mural titled"Above and Beneath," valued at$15,000, to the Department of Parks and Recreation; and WHEREAS,the ten-foot by 300-foot mural was created by artist David `MEGGS' Hooke, and painted in collaboration with community; and WHEREAS, the mural depicts photographs captured by Andrew Richard Hara during the 2018 Kilauea eruption; and WHEREAS, the mural will enhance the appearance of the Pahoa District Park Pool and serve as a resounding symbol of the community's strength and resiliency; and WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawai`i County Charter provides that the Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts of donations of money, securities or other personal property or of real estate or any interest iri real estate, and Chapter 2,Article 30, Section 2-162 (a) of the Hawai`i County Code states that any gifts or donations of money, securities, or personal property which fall within the capitalization procedures of the Department of Finance, may be accepted by resolution approved by the Council; and WHEREAS,the Department of Parks and Recreation has reviewed this proposal for a mural and believes that it is in the public's best interest to accept this donation for the Pahoa District Park Pool; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that in accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12, of the Hawai`i County Charter, and Chapter 2, Article 30, Section 2-162(a) of the Hawai`i County Code,the Council of the County of Hawai`i accepts this donation.
