Resolution No. 346
WHEREAS, on January 29 , 1975, MERLE K. LAI was
selected by the Hawaii County Council to fill the seat
vacated by John Farias, Jr. , who resigned on November 29 ,
1974; and
WHEREAS, MERLE K. LAI , who was born in Honolulu and
reared in Hilo, is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools and the
University of Hawaii with a bachelor's degree in American
history; and
WHEREAS, MERLE K. LAI , former Mayor Shunichi Kimura's
administrative aide, is the second woman member of the
nine-member Hawaii County Council on February 5, 1975;
and
WHEREAS, the selection of MERLE K. LAI as Councilwoman
is evidence of the confidence and belief of the County
Council that MERLE K. LAI possesses the necessary qualities
and characteristics to be an outstanding servant to the
people of the County of Hawaii,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that a unanimous ballot be cast for
MERLE K. LAI as Councilwoman-select to fill the vacated
County Council seat for the North and South Hilo Districts.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Clerk of the
County of Hawaii be and he is hereby directed to transmit
w
a true copy of this resolution to MERLE K. LAI, Hawaii
County Councilwoman.
