WHEREAS, on December 4 , 1974, the Hawaii County Council
adopted Resolution No. 301, indicating the County' s interest
in obtaining a parcel of land at Laupahoehoe Point from the
United States Government; and
WHEREAS, the acquisition of this property was to provide
for additional recreational areas in the North Hilo District;
and
WHEREAS, this land is under the jurisdiction of the
United States Lighthouse Service of the U. S. Government; and
WHEREAS, current negotiations by the County are uncertain
and could involve a lengthy period of time until final approval
and purchase;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it takes this means to recommend to
the federal agencies to grant a temporary permit to the
County of Hawaii for the above mentioned property until
negotiations have been completed to acquire the land.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit true copies of
this resolution to the Honorable Congresswoman Patsy T. Mink;
the Honorable Herbert Matayoshi, Mayor of Hawaii County;
Commander, 14th Coast Guard District; and Mr. William Bastian,
Chairman of the North Hilo Community Council.
