RESOLUTION NO. 96 19
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO NA MAKA HALOA 0
WAIPI`O FOR ITS KUKULU KUMUHANA 0 PUNA PROGRAM.
WHEREAS,Na Maka Haloa o Waipi`o is a 501(c)(3)nonprofit organization that runs
Kukulu Kumuhana o Puna, a program that educates youth, families, and communities on the
cultural heritage of the kupuna(elders) of Puna through workshops, meetings, and ho`ike
(exhibits); and
WHEREAS,the Kukulu Kumuhana o Puna program consists of workshops that are held
twice a week teaching hula, chanting, Hawaiian language, storytelling, lei making, and how to
create traditional clothing in hopes of increasing cultural knowledge and skills in Hawaiian
traditions and heritage; and
WHEREAS,Na Maka Haloa o Waipi`o is requesting funds to cover facility rental fees,
materials, supplies, and food for the students who attend the workshops; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports public programs that promote
drug-free and alcohol-free community events; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of
Liquor Control to provide a grant to Na Maka Haloa o Waipi`o to cover expenses for its Kukulu
Kumuhana o Puna program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
