WHEREAS, the Big Island of Hawaii is saddened to learn
of the passing of one of its former residents, LILLIAN
KALIKOLEHUA MALUO; and
WHEREAS, MISS MALUO has left behind an inspirational
legacy of honors and achievements worthy of our younger
generation to aspire; and
WHEREAS, in her military career spanning seventeen
years, LILLIAN K. MALUO attained the rank of major, and
distinguished herself by becoming the first woman in the
State of Hawaii to become an officer first in the U. S. Marine
Corps, and later in the U. S. Woman' s Army Corps; and
WHEREAS, "Chucco" as MISS MALUO was affectionately
known to her family and close friends, was deeply religious,
inbred with an unusual profound sense of loyalty, devotion,
compassion and respect for her family, friends and all the
people who were fortunate to know her; and
WHEREAS, such qualities and achievements need to be
recognized, remembered and exemplified especially in these
trying times,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OP THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it posthumously honors LILLIAN K. MALUO
for her past worthy achievements which we all can share and
be proud of.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Council also
wishes to express its heartfelt condolences to the family
and friends of LILLIAN KALIKOLEHUA MALUO, and that a true
copy of this resolution be sent to her parents Mr. & Mrs. Elijah
Maluo, Sr.
