WHEREAS, DR. WILLIAM N. BERGIN, who was the founder
and senior partner of Hilo Medical Group, began his dedicated
medical practice in Holualoa, Kona, in 1935 ; and
WHEREAS, DR. BERGIN later was plantation physician on
the Hamakua coast until 1949 , when he began a partnership
in Hilo; and
WHEREAS, in 1962 , DR. BERGIN received an award as Hawaii 's
Outstanding Physician of the Year; and
WHEREAS, DR. BERGIN unselfishly served as Vice Chairman
and Chairman of the successful Hawaii Redevelopment Agency's
Kaiko'o Urban Renewal Project; and
WHEREAS, DR. BERGIN also served as Rotary District
Governor; Regent of Chaminade College; Chief of Staff, Hilo
Hospital; Fellow, American Academy of Family Physicians;
President of Big Island Council on Addiction; President of
Hawaii Medical Association; charter member of Friendly Sons
of St. Patrick; and Holy Name Society member; and
WHEREAS, Francis Council will salute DR. BERGIN, who has
been a member for 26 years and served as its medical examiner
for 25 years, for his "true love and dedication toward God,
Country and the Young Men' s Institute, "
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it takes this means to also salute DR. BERGIN
for extending his true aloha and dedicated service to everyone.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit a true copy of
this resolution to DR. WILLIAM N. BERGIN, and to extend to
DR. BERGIN and his family the County's warmest 'aloha and
mahalo. "
