WHEREAS, on April 10, 1973, the people of Hawaii were
saddened by the news of the passing of a great humanitarian,
WALTER C. XALKII VICTOR in the 61st year of his illustrious
life; and
WHEREAS, he dedicated his life to the youth of Hawaii
as head coach at St. Mary's and St. Joseph3s High School from
1932 to 1969, as an active organizer, coach, coordinator of
basketball teams from the elementary school level to the senior
league, and as an active organizer and participant in softball,
track, baseball, golf, T-bail, and pistol shooting ; and
WHEREAS, in 1943 he was honored as Hawaii County's first
Sportsman of the Year, and in 1966 he was named the County of
Hawaii's Employee of the Year; and
WHEREAS, his services and accomplishments in the field
of physical fitness leadership was recognized in 1970 by the
U. S. Jaycees and the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company
who honored himas one of the three top leaders throughout
our Country in this field; and
rEfFREAS, he gave valued service to his fellowman, bestowing
understanding to those in distress, aid wthe weak, assistance
to the needy, and by his personal sacrifices contributed to
the building of a better community for all to live; and
WHEREAS, he generously served his community with the
protection and service in his lifealon, career as a police
officer rising to the rank of rolice Captain in the County
of Hawaii Police Department; and
WHEREAS, all who knew him or felt his influence, readily
acknowledge his deep dedication and human concern for every
individual with -07:-n,; he became associated and recognize the
many personal sacrifices he made for and on behalf of scores
of Big Island athletes and the citizenry at large; and
WJEREAS, forraer Governor John A. laarna, Senators Hiram
Fong and Dan Inouye, and Representatives Patsy Mink and
Sparky Matsunaga have previously acknowledged their heartiest
congratulations to IALTER C. K. VICTOR for his outstanding
contributions to the youth of Hawaii ; and
WHEREAS, the State Senate, State House of Representatives
and the Council of the County of Hawaii in like manner extended
their commendations to an outstanding American whose deep
dedication and human concern touched the 1iw?.0 of countless
numbers of the youth of Hawaii.
NOW, THER,-XORE, BD IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL or THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that th3 Lew pavilion at the Hoolulu Park
Complex be named the WALaa C. K. VICTOR BASEBALL PAVILION
in memorial honor of this great Americans this devoted servant
of our youth, this compassionate humanitarian, WALTER C. VICTOR.
BE IT FURTHER :- ..:SOLVED that an appropriate dedication
ceremony be conducted by the County of Hawaii on opening day
of the WALTER C. K. VICTOR BASEBALL PAVILION, and that a true
copy of this resolution be read and presented to Mrs. Walter C. •s<,
Victor at that time.
