RESOLUTION NO. . ,.
WHEREAS, in the tide of affairs that govern men there
will seldom arise one individual who sets aside all motivation
of personal gain and dedicateshimself to serve his fellow
men even to the point of medical exhaustion; and
WHEREAS, that man will be revered and worshiped by
his followers for the everlasting ideals and principles
which he has established and will be remembered time immemorial
for his accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, although that man stands shoulders above his
pears and is clearly distinguishable from the others, the
extent of his greatness is never known until he passes on
and leaves a void too great for any individual to fulfill;
and
WHEREAS, there existed in this life time such a man who
was the motivating force for the establishment of Statehood
and leading the development of that State into one of the
greatest states in the nation; and
WHEREAS, he was known as the architect of the Democratic
Party of the State of Hawaii, called the "Great White Father`
by some, but a friend of all of the people of the State of
Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, that great man of this century, JOHN ANTHONY BURNS,
former Governor of the State of Hawaii, passed away on April 5,
1975,

OW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OP THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it conveys its sincerest condolence to
Mrs. John A. Burns and her family for the loss of a great
man who has touched all of our lives and is mourned by all
in the State of Hawaii.
BE IT FUR '; ER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby ordered to transmit copies of this
resolution to Mrs. Burns and to express to her that while
men speak of leaving their mark in this world, great men,
as JOHN A. BURNS, make it a better place to live, and such
is the Hawaiian way of life as we know it today.
