RESOLUTION '
WHEREAS, the Haili Men' s Club will be making a
bid to host here in Hilo the United States Volleyball
Association's National Tournament to be held in May of
1977; and
WHEREAS, this worthy effort would bring into this
County a prestigious sporting event, which has of
recent years developed into an international sport to
ultimate recognition of being included an Olympic
game event; and
WHEREAS, the Haili Men' s Club has for the past
seventeen years thrilled and entertained thousands of
enthusiasts of the sport of volleyball with their ever
popular and successful sponsorship of the Haili
Invitational Volleyball Tournament, which annually
attracts a field of over 70 teams from the State of
Hawaii and California; and
WHEREAS, should the City of Hilo be fortunately
designated the host city for the 1977 tournament, it
would be beneficial from the spectator standpoint as
the participants will be of championship caliber and
without doubt some may eventually make the U.S.
Olympic Volleyball team; and
WHEREAS, this endeavor by the Haili Men' s Club
merits encouragement and moral support from both the
public and government sectors of our community as
top-rated recreational entertainment and national
attention will be focused on our County, according
our people an opportunity to display our "Hawaiian
Aloha Spirit" ; and
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF
THE COUNTY OF HAWAII not only endorses this effort with
the knowledge that the Haili Men' s Club has the
qualifications, the manpower and the experience to
handle such a project but also adds the County' s
commitment to make the necessary recreational facilities
available for the duration of the tournament; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk
remit true copies of this resolution to W.H. Peck,
President of the United States Volleyball Association,
Reno, Nevada, for his consideration on this matter
on May 9, 1975 and Thomas Lindsey, President of the
Haili Men' s Club.
