Resolution No. - 407
WHEREAS, the 1976 Bicentennial celebration will commemorate
the 200th anniversary of the American Revolution and our nation' s
birth; and
WHEREAS, the Pahoa High and Elementary School is the first
school on the Island of Hawaii to initiate a project in conjunction
with the 1976 Bicentennial activities; and
WHEREAS, May 19-23, 1975, has been designated as Ethnic Week
at Pahoa High and Elementary School in recognition of the various
cultures and arts brought over by early migrants to Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, throughout this period, student activities have
been scheduled such as guest speakers, a tree planting ceremony,
a variety show, a Hawaiian games and martial arts program, a
cultural arts display and a musical featuring songs of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the combined efforts of the Pahoa High and Elementary
School student body, faculty and administration have labored
conscientiously in planning and producing an event which depicts
Hawaii ' s role in the Bicentennial celebration.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it extends congratulations to the Pahoa High and
Elementary School for its endeavors in recognizing and preserving
the cultures of our ancestors during Ethnic Week 1975.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution
to Mr. Masao Kuniyoshi, Principal of Pahoa High School, Mr. John
Wong, Advisor, Janet Konanui, Coordinator of Ethnic Week, and
Craig Tsutsui, Chairman of the Bicentennial Committee.
