HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 423 Draft 01 1972-1976 County of Hawaii—State of Hawaii No. 423 Resolution WHEREAS , the United States Congress , by Senate Bill Number 421 (hereafter S . 421) , cited as the "Low-Cost Air Transportation Act, ' is attempting to regulate commerce and assure the availability of air transportation at the lowest reasonable cost; and WHEREAS , S . 421, in part, authorizes reduced rate transportation for the elderly, the handicapped, and the young; and WHEREAS , S . 421, in part, provides : '' (7) Senior citizens who have retired. . .should not be denied access to air transportation, but such a denial occurs unless a reduction in force is authorized for such persons consistent with their lower-than-average incomes . " ; and WHEREAS, S . 421 also provides , in part: 'Any air carrier or foreign carrier, under such terms and conditions as the Board may prescribe. . .may grant reduced rate transportation on a space-available basis . . .to persons who are sixty-five years of age or older. . . . " ; and WHEREAS , S . 421, as drafted, is good for our nation, state, and county' s senior citizens , whose fixed incomes have been sharply diminished by spiraling inflation; and WHEREAS , a special stand-by (space available) rate plan for our senior citizens is integrally important to Hawaii because we are geographically dependent upon the service provided by the inter-island airlines , NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it goes on record as unanimously supporting and urging the United States Congress to enact S. 421 into law. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit true copies of this resolution to the Honorable George Ariyoshi , Governor, State of Hawaii; the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye, United States Senator; the Honorable Hiram Fong, United States Senator; the Honorable Spark Matsunaga, United States Representative; the Honorable Patsy T. Mink, United States Representative; the U.S. Congressional Committee on Commerce; the Honorable Howard Cannon, United States Senator; the Honorable Herbert T. Matayoshi, Mayor, County of Hawaii; the Honorable Frank F. Fasi, Mayor, City and County of Honolulu; the Honorable Elmer Cravalho, Mayor, County of Maui; and the Honorable Eduardo Malapit, Mayor, County of Kauai.
