I am writing in support of Resolution 87-19 regarding the prospective Pahoa mural ABOVE
AND BENEATH, based of photos by Andrew Hara. The mural will be painted by David
MEGGS Hooke, in partnership with the Temple Children,who have created breath-taking
murals in Hilo.
The mural is part of Activate Puna-a community celebration of Art, Food & Music to bring
the community together and help us move forward just one year after the start of the Volcanic
events. Activate Puna will unite and motivate the community and encourage future
community efforts. The impactful mural, and future murals, will be there for the community
to enjoy for many years to come. In addition,the mural along with historical Pahoa's unique
shops and restaurants, and the new Lava Museum, will help attract visitors, which will in turn,
help our local economy.
The mural will be a testimony of the community's resiliency and our love for Puna.
