RESOLUTION NO. :12 19
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE PAHOA
SCHOOLS SUPPORT FOUNDATION TO ASSIST WITH PAHOA ELEMENTARY
SCHOOL'S FIELD TRIPS.
WHEREAS, The Pahoa Schools Support Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit
organization whose purpose is to supplement and fund activities that promote educational
opportunities for the students attending public schools in Pahoa; and
WHEREAS, Pahoa Elementary School students have suffered excessive trauma due to
the school's close proximity to the eruption events of Kilauea volcano in 2018; and
WHEREAS, Pahoa Elementary School has been assisting the students with recovery and
resiliency through educational activities that focus on Hawaiian culture and Hawaii Island; and
WHEREAS, Pahoa Elementary School would like to expand its classroom activities and
provide an opportunity for its fourth- and fifth -grade students to learn about the eruption events
and Hawaiian culture and history at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park and The Kohala Center
Test Garden in Honoka` a; and
WHEREAS, Pahoa Elementary School has limited funding for extra -curricular activities,
and The Pahoa Schools Support Foundation is requesting financial assistance with covering the
costs of transportation for Pahoa Elementary School's field trips; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports alcohol -free and drug-free
events that will improve the quality of life for our communities; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity,
service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of
Liquor Control to provide a grant to The Pahoa Schools Support Foundation to assist with Pahoa
Elementary School's field trips.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
