Dr. Burns is an Assistant Professor in <br /> Marine Science and Data Science at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. <br /> Dr. Burns obtained a BS in Biology with Concentration on Marine Biology and Fisheries <br /> and a minor in Philosophy from California Polytechnic State University SLO. He earned <br /> a Ph.D. in Biology, Specialization in Marine Biology and an MS degree in Tropical <br /> Conservation in Environmental Science from the University of Hawai'i at Hilo. <br /> Dr. Burns volunteers his time to numerous community organizations especially doing <br /> outreach education to local private and public schools. <br /> Originally from South Africa and educated in the United States, Dr. Burns has called <br /> Hawai'i his home the last ten years. <br /> He states that he is not a member of any political party.
