Dear Chairman Chung and Council Members: �,
It is my pleasure to nominate Kilohana Hirano of Council District 5 to the Cultural
Resource Commission. Mr. Hirano currently works for Kamehameha Schools as its
Community Engagement and Resources Regional Director.
Mr. Hirano is a graduate of the Kamehameha Schools and obtained a Bachelor of Arts
degree in Hawaiian Studies from the University of Hawai'i at Hilo.
Prior to his current position, Mr. Hirano also worked as a Hawaiian Language and
Culture teacher, a Hawaiian Culture/Curriculum Specialist and other positions with the
Kamehameha Schools.
Born and raised on Hawai'i Island, Mr. Hirano is an active member of our community.
He is a member the Rotary Club of South Hilo, Hawaii Island Chamber of commerce,
Hawaiian Civic Club of Laupahoehoe, and Hale 0 Na Ali'i o Hawaii, Halau o Kalakaua.
He states that he is not a member of any political party. If confirmed, Mr. Hirano may
serve a 5 year term to end December 31, 2023.
