After having testified and submitted testimony numerous times in opposition to Piilani Partners' request to rezone and apply for permits to create a water bottling plant in Hilo, Bill 16 is a real slap in the face to the people of Hilo. Who is listening to the voice of the people of Hilo? We keep saying we don't want a water bottling C plant in Hilo, and yet, it keeps being resurrected. This is really becoming cliche. A big mahal -- to Ms. Poindexter and Ms. Villegas who voted 'no" at the February 19, 2019.meeting. THEYNa -- "{ are listening to the people. If the council wants to truly think about the future health and well-being of Hilo, decisions LI need to be aligned with sustainability and protection of our resources and planet. Plastic bottling plants are in the dark ages. You must know how polluted our planet is with plastic. Ry You must have read the UN's report on climate change (https://report.ipcc.ch/sr15/pdf/srl 5_spm_final.pdf) and the dangers of plastic, pollution, and petrochemicals. Please think of the future. Read: https://greatist.com/live/plastic-water-bottles https://www.popsci.com/flint-michigan-nestle-bottled-water#page-3 https://www.bridgemi.com/guest-commentary/opinion-nestle-water-deal-bad-economics-and- bad-policy-michigan Don't be like the lawmakers in Michigan. Protect our resources. Protect our future. There is no Plan-et B. Instead of creating bills that enable exploitation of the public trust resources, create bills that effectively stop exploitation of public trust resources. The Public Trust states that water is for the people of Hawai`i. We should stop water from leaving Hawai`i. This would prevent corporations like Nestle sucking our public trust resources dry. This is the kind of legislation we need to protect our water: Get rid of all plastic bottles. We grew up in an era where we didn't need plastic bottled drinks. We were just fine. Now look at our planet. There are plastic garbage patches in the Pacific the size of France. France! Fish being sampled from the Marianas Trench have micro plastics in them! (https://www.nationalgeographic.com/environment/207 8/12/microplastic-pollution-is-found- in-deep-sea/) The deepest parts of the ocean are not exempt from human selfishness. Human lust for convenience is going to destroy everything. We are running out of time to be hairsplitting over water bottling plants. All of our energy needs to turn towards sustainability and resource protection. https://news.un.org/en/story/2018/10/1022492 No more plastics! No more resource exploitation! PLEASE Vote no on Bill 16. Kau'i Trainer, Hilo ............. Comm. No. (04.21. Ref. To: PIcouncII Ref.nate MAR 2 7 2019
