I3t f:;.0WrITY OF HAV/I\ From: Ariel Dison To: Council Testimony 2011 MAR 27 AN 9: 29 Subject: Support for Bill 36&37 Date: Tuesday,March 26,2019 9:15:21 AM My name is Ariel Douvris. My family and I live in the Puna. district of Hawaii Island, off of Pohoild. Rd, in an area called Malama Ki Homesteads. My husband and I were immediately evacuated on May 3rd 201.8 from our 20 acre (working) fruit farm due to the lava eruption. Fortunately, we did not lose our land. However there is no accessibility because Pohoiki Rd. has been covered over with the lava flow as well as the 1 mile county road that is the neighborhood entry. Many of our neighbors homes are within the inundation area but were spared from lava overflow. How fortunate we would be if only we could return to our homes and farms. If only we could resume our previous productive lives. If only the roads were clear to traverse and return home. Officials, please find a way to provide access for Highway 132, Pohoiki. Rd. an.d Highway 137. Hopefully, together with. matching Federal Highway funds, you will find a way to re-open these major roadways and alleviate the homelessness and hopelessness this eruption has wrought. Timeliness on this issue is critical. Thank you for your consideration of this request. I wish you every success this legislative session.
