STATE OF HAWAII
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HAWAIIAN
SANCTUARY INC. FOR ITS PLANT ALOHA PROJECT.
WHEREAS, Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that conducts
Hawaiian cultural and agricultural education programs for the Puna community; and
WHEREAS, one of the projects of Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc. is Plant Aloha, which
provides a year-long series of free classes on various natural and sustainable farming systems to
encourage farming practices in alignment with Native Hawaiian cultural protocols and to
increase local food production and food security in Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the Plant Aloha project also aims to provide education, guidance, and
motivation for sustainable farming, which can serve as a critical resource for Puna residents who
are recovering from the social, environmental, and economic impacts of the recent Kilauea
eruption; and
WHEREAS, Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc. is requesting funds for facilitators who will
conduct the Plant Aloha sustainable farming classes; and
WHEREAS, the Plant Aloha project falls within the Department of Research and
Development's mission to facilitate leadership and education that support and promote
agricultural sustainability on Hawaii Island; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of
Research and Development to provide a grant to Hawaiian Sanctuary Inc. for its Plant Aloha
project.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
