It my pleasure to nominate Isabella Hughes of Hilo to the Merit Appeals Board. LA.)
Ms. Hughes is a small business owner and is President and co-founder of Shaka Tea, a
company that bottles and flavors mamaki tea drinks. She is a graduate of Punahou
School, and holds a BA degree in Art History from Boston University and MA degree in
Museum Studies from John Hopkins University.
In addition to running her business, Ms. Hughes is also an independent curator and
Director Emeritus and board member of Honolulu Biennial. She is the past editor of
ArtAsia Pacific and Director and cofounder of Honolulu Biennial Foundation.
Ms. Hughes states she is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, she will
serve a five year term ending December 31, 2023.
