Resolution No. 425
REQUESTING THE HAWAII CONGRESSIONAL DELEGATION TO INITIATE
LEGISLATION TO THE CONGRESS TO GRANT FREE POSTAGE FOR ABSENTEE
VOTING PURPOSES
WHEREAS , the Congress has granted free postage to persons
temporarily residing outside of the territorial limits of the
United States and the District of Columbia under the Federal
Absentee Voting Assistance Act, U.S . C.A. Title 50 S1451; and
WHEREAS , many voters of the State of Hawaii temporarily
reside outside the county of their voting residence; and
WHEREAS, voters and their counties of voting residence are
forced to incur the burden of postage in order to allow those
voters to participate in elections ; and
WHEREAS, the Congress has expressed its strong desire to
increase voter participation throughout the nation.
NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it take this means to respectfully
request that the Hawaii Congressional Delegation initiate
legislation to provide for free postage for absentee voting
purposes for all primary, general and special elections.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit true copies of
this resolution to the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye, United States
Senator; the Honorable Hiram L. Fong, United States Senator;
the Honorable Spark M. Matsunaga, United States Representative;
and the Honorable Patsy T. Mink, United States Representative.
