Resolution
WHEREAS, the public park in Hakalau is presently known as
the "Hakalau Park" ; and
WHEREAS, in 1965 , the Hakalau Recreational Council
expended $10,000 for the construction of a little league
stadium at Hakalau Park; and
WHEREAS, said council erected a monument in the park as a
memorial to twelve young men from Hakalau who gave their lives
in World War II so that others may live in freedom; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council on behalf of the
peopleof the Big Island wishes to give long-standing
recognition to the gallantry of the twelve young men from
Hakalau,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that the park known as Hakalau Park be
henceforth known as "HAKALAU VETERANS PARK. "
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit copies of this
resolution to Mr. Jack Y. Ouye, President of the Hakalau
Recreational Council and Hilo Coast Little League, and to
Mr. Milton Hakoda, Director of the Department of Parks and
Recreation.
Dated at Hilo, Hawaii, this 18th day of June, 1975 .
