Resolution No. 447
WHEREAS , transportation cost is an important factor for
island grown and processed commodities to be exported to the
mainland and foreign countries; and
WHEREAS, ways of obtaining maximum efficiencies by
consolidating commodities should be created; and
WHEREAS , one of the ways to obtain maximum efficiencies
is to provide for an export facility wherein commodities could
be efficiently packed and fumigated for the best commodity
quality; and
WHEREAS , Hilo Airport 's new Overseas Air Terminal is slated
for final completion in March 1976 ; and
WHEREAS, the present Overseas Terminal site, which will be
vacated in 1976 by the Air Transportation System, is an ideal
location for an export facility for commodities that are to be
transported by air or water,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it goes on record as requesting the
State Department of Transportation to carefully consider the
County' s concept of utilizing a portion of the present Overseas
Air Terminal site, after it is vacated in 1976 , as an export
facility for island grown and processed commodities .

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit true copies of
this resolution to the Honorable George Ariyoshi , Governor of
the State of Hawaii; Yr. John Farias , Jr. , Director, Department
of Agriculture; Mr. Hideto Kono, Director, Department of Planning
and Economic Development; the Honorable John T. Ushij ima, the
Honorable Stanley I . Fara, and the Honorable Richard Henderson,
Members of the State Senate from the Island of Hawaii ; and to
the Honorable Yoshito Takamine , the Honorable Jack K. Suwa, the
Honorable Stanley H. Roehrig, the Honorable Minoru Inaba, and
the Honorable Herbert Segawa, Members of the State House of
Representative from the Island of Hawaii.
