HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 452 Draft 01 1972-1976 County of Hawaii—State of Hawaii Resolution No. 4-52 WHEREAS, the General Accounting Office (GAO) has recommended that 12, 000 third-class and fourth-class post offices be closed across the country; and WHEREAS, post offices in the County of Hawaii that might be affected include the following third-class stations : Post Offices at Hakalau, Honaunau, Honomu, Kurtistown, Laupahoehoe, Ninole, Ookala, Paauhau, Paauilo, Papaaloa and Volcano; and WHEREAS, the closing of those post offices may result in cost savings to the postal department but will also result in tremendous cost to the postal patrons in multiples of the savings to be recognized by the postal department and violate all semblance of energy conservation, NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the County of Hawaii that it go on the record as unanimously opposing the closing of all the affected post offices within the County of Hawaii. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit true copies of this resolution to the Honorable George Ariyoshi, Governor, State of Hawaii; the Honorable Daniel K. Inouye, U.S. Senator; the Honorable Hiram Fong, U.S. Senator; the Honorable Spark Matsunaga, U.S. Representative; the Honorable Patsy T. Mink, U.S. Representative; the Honorable John T. Ushijima, President of the Senate, State of Hawaii; the Honorable James H. Wakatsuki, Speaker of the House, State of Hawaii; the Honorable Herbert T. Matayoshi, Mayor of the County of Hawaii; the U.S. Postmaster General; Mr. H. C. Chee, Hawaii District Manager and Postmaster; and Mr. Shoji Shiraki, President of the Kurtistown Young Men's Association.
