Resolution No. 455
WHEREAS , conservation and replenishment of our natural
resources must receive close attention and high priority; and
WHEREAS , the improvement of the quality of life to which the
Hawaii County General Plan speaks is closely tied to the
enhancement of the environment; and
WHEREAS , government should take the lead to promulgate and
enforce regulations and policies to attain these ends ; and.
WHEREAS , the rapid depletion of our resources of our
once bountiful ocean waters must be stopped; and
WHEREAS , conservation practices reflect our historical
heritage; and
WHEREAS , the taking of our ocean resources by illegal methods
such as by the use of chemicals and the taking of undersized.
specimens must be stopped,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that there be stricter enforcement of existing fish
and game laws .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a reassessment of the problems
be made by authorities to the end that pertinent laws be made
more effective with accompanying provisions for more efficient
enforcement.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this resolution
be forwarded to the Honorable George Ariyoshi , Governor of
the State of Hawaii ; Mr. Christopher Cobb, Chairman of the
Board of Land and Natural Resources ; the Honorable John T.
Ushijima, the Honorable Stanley I . Hara, and the Honorable
Richard Henderson, Members of the State Senate from the Island
of Hawaii; and to the Honorable Yoshito Takamine , the Honorable
Jack K. Suwa, the Honorable Stanley H. poehrig, the Honorable
Minoru Inaba, and. the Honorable Herbert Segawa, Members of the
State House of Representative from the Island of Hawaii.
