WHEREAS, in the sport of competitive swimming,
Jon Hayashida, a 17 year old senior at Hilo High School, has
gained prominence in local, state-wide and national aquatic
circles; and
WHEREAS, Jon Hayashida has established himself as
Hawaii' s foremost swimmer in the 200 meter butterfly stroke
with a time of 2: 13:26 minutes for the 15-18 age group and
in the senior men' s events; and
WHEREAS, during August 8-10, 1975, Jon Hayashida
represented Hawaii at the National Junior Olympics held at
Ithaca, New York where he placed 15th overall; and
WHEREAS, Jon Hayashida has been swimming competitively
for approximately 9 years and was the captain of the Viking
swim team in his junior year; and
WHEREAS, Jon Hayashida, while attaining outstanding
achievements in athletics, also possesses scholastic as well
as leadership abilities in school activities; and
WHEREAS, he served as Junior class Treasurer and has
maintained an excellent grade point average throughout his
high school years.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY Of HAWAII that congratulations and recognition be
bestowed upon Jon Hayashida for his outstanding performances
in competitive swimming, his high scholastic achievements,
and for the superior leadership he has demonstrated at
Hilo High School.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the best of luck be
extended to him in the upcoming 1975-76 swimming season and
may additional honors mount as he continues his climb to
success.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk be and
is hereby directed to transmit a true copy of this resolution
to Jon Hayashida, his parents Mr. & Mrs. Toshiaki Hayashida,
Mr. Richard Matsunaga, Principal of Hilo High School, and
Mr. Edward Kawachika, swimming coach of the Hilo Aquatic Club.
