Resolution No. 471
WHEREAS, Mr. Irwin Allen, prominent Hollywood film
producer and director, noted for two of Hollywood's biggest
blockbusting motion pictures entitled, "The Poseidon Adventure"
and "The Towering Inferno, " is on the verge of filming
another major blockbusting motion picture entitled, "The
Day the World Ended; " and
WHEREAS, "The Day the World Ended" is based upon a true
incident that happened in 1902 on the Island of Martinique
in the Carribean; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Irwin Allen is currently looking for
locations on the Big Island that would be similar to the
tropical lushness and port city environment of Martinique as
it existed in 1902,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it goes on record as unanimously
requesting Mr. Irwin Allen to select the Big Island of
Hawaii, with its tropical lushness and similar Martinique
environment, as the location for 20th Century Fox's next
major, successful motion picture entitled "The Day the World
Ended. "
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County
of Hawaii and the citizenry of the entire Big Island of
Hawaii, in the spirit of "Aloha" , cordially offer Mr. Irwin
Allen and his accomplished team our fullest cooperation and
assistance.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and he is hereby directed to transmit true copies
of this resolution to Mr. Irwin Allen.
