RESOLUTION NO. 4k5/t
WHEREAS, the attainment of physical fitness is a universal
but elusive goal sought by humans; and
WHEREAS, for the second consecutive year, Laupahoehoe High
and Elementary School has won the Presidential Physical Fitness
Award in competition with 58 other Hawaii schools; and
WHEREAS, in tests developed in 1957 by the American Alliance
for Health, Physical Education and Recreation, students must achieve
an 85 percent score in pull-ups for boys, flexed arm hangs for girls,
sit-ups, shuttle run, standing broad jump, 50-yard dash and the
(00 yard run-walk; and
WHEREAS, of. the 18,953 students tested this year, only 811
made the grade, with 40 of them coming from Laupahoehoe; and
WHEREAS, much credit must be attributed to the physical
education instructors Maile Aina and Norman Kramer for guiding
their students to this height of achievement; and
WHEREAS, the 23 boys and 17 girls who brought home the title
include:
Boys - Daryl Yamanouchi, Aaron Ita, Larry Nases, Leslie Vincent,
Joel Himalaya, Norman Kramer, Chris Salomon, Kevin Murota,
Kaihi Francisco, Mark Arakaki, Benji Tamamoto, Alberto Nacis,
Vernon Pilor, Ellison Ita, David DeMattos, Randy Fernandez,
Tracy DeCaires, Guy Nobriga, Eric Murota, Clarence Ah Puck,
Arnold Sugiyama, John Mortemore and Michael Mortemore.
Girls - Lucinda Salboro, Mary Ducasse, Bellia Rivera, Renee
Salomon, Veronique Ducasse, Laura DeMattos, Diana Edgamin, Jill
Hirowatari, Jeanette Avanilla, Noelani Kekauhoha, Roxanne
Elizares, Norma Ancheta, Leonida Navalta, Peggy Powers, Grace
Sugioka, Julie Cadabona and Lori Ah Puck.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII, that it takes this means to extend congratulations and
due recognition to Laupahoehoe High and Elementary School on being
named the recipienL of the Presidential Physical Fitness Award
for 1974-75.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution to
Mr. Stanley Igawa, Principal of Laupahoehoe High and Elementary
School and to the physical education instructors, Ms. Maile Aina
and Mr. Norman Kramer.
