RESOLUTION NO.
WHEREAS, public service beyond the normal call of duty
deserves recognition and praise; and
WHEREAS, JOHN KAI, 30, a recently promoted sergeant with
the Hawaii County Police Department, has again been cited for
his superior achievements in his profession and in civic affairs;
and
WHEREAS, he has been named the 1975 "Outstanding Young Law
Officer" by the Hilo Jaycees for his work with troubled youths,
crime prevention, counseling, drug abuse and athletics; and
WHEREAS, at Honokaa High School, JOHN KAI served as coach
to the baseball team which won the 1975 BIIF championship and
the Catholic Youth Organization little league team which he
organized; and
WHEREAS, JOHN KAI devotes between 15 to 20 hours a week on
volunteer services to the community; and
WHEREAS, JOHN KAI is a member of the Hamakua Jaycees,
Honokaa PTSA, Honokaa Police Department Community Relations
Bureau, Hamakua Lions Club and Hamakua Officials Association; and
WHEREAS, JOHN KAI has previously been recognized as Hawaii
County's Employee of the Year for 1973 and was the recipient of
the Hamakua Jaycees Distinguished Service Award for 1974; and
WHEREAS, JOHN KAI, who attended St. Joseph High School,
College of Marin and Hawaii Community College, graduated with a
degree in police science and presently lives in Pahala with his
wife, Esther, and their four children.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it recognizes JOHN KAI for being named the 1975
"Outstanding Young Law Officer" of Hawaii County and that special
commendation be bestowed upon him for the dedicated public service
he has given to the community.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit true copies of this resolution
to JOHN RAI and to the Hilo Jaycees.
