RESOLUTION NO. - A

WHEREAS, on October 27 , 1975 , a disabled South Korean
fishing vessel, the "St. Pedro, with twenty-four crewmen
aboard, drifted helplessly off South Point, Island of Hawaii;
and
WHEREAS, Big Islanders ROBERT BECK, CALVIN HAMADA, ALFRED
GALIMBA and SAM PUHI, upon discovering the plight of the
St. Pedro, immediately proceeded evacuation operations , aboard
a local fishing vessel, in the midst of towering waves; and
WHEREAS , because of the valiant rescue efforts of BECK,
HAMADA, GALIMBA, PUHI and other persons , the twenty--three
South Korean crewmen were safely evacuated and brought to
shore; and
WHEREAS, BECK, HAMADA, GALIMBA and PUHI should be highly
commended and given public recognition as rescue efforts of
fellow human beings are humanitarian acts and should be
encouraged,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it takes this means to extend its 'ahalo
and give a well-deserved public recognition to ROBERT BECK,
CALVIN KLMADA, ALFRED CALIMBA and SAM PUHI for their valiant
rescue efforts on October 27 , 1975 .
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii send a true and original copy of this resolution to
ROBERT BECK, CALVIN HAMADA, ALFRED GALIMBA and SAM PUHI .
