WHEREAS, the Award of Merit is the highest honor accorded
annually to citizens for outstanding service in scouting and
in community affairs; and
WHEREAS, DELMAR KLECKNER, an industrial relations superinten-
dent for Kau Sugar Company, has been named the recipient of this
award for 1975; and
WHEREAS, DELMAR KLECKNER's involvement in the scouting
movement for the past 5 years includes the Cub Scouts Space and
Pinewood Derbies, the Makahiki, Scout field days and membership
drives; and
WHEREAS, as the Assistant District Commissioner for Kau,
DELMAR KLECKNER has been a key figure in scouting programs and
activities; and
WHEREAS, DELMAR KLECKNER has been credited for reviving
scouting in Kau when interest and support was waning; and
WHEREAS, in community affairs, he has served in various
capacities such as a volunteer fire fighter, editor of the
community newspaper, United Fund coordinator, Young Farmers,
Kau PTSA, a first aid instructor and the Kau Lions Club.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it takes this means to recognize and extend
congratulations to DELMAR KLECKNER for being accorded the Award
of Merit by the Boy Scouts of America.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit a true copy of this resolution
to DELMAR KLECKNER.
