WHEREAS, the Award of Merit is the highest honor accorded
annually to citizens for outstanding service in scouting and
in community affairs ; and
WHEREAS, SPARKY NIIMI, an independent Puna businessman,
has been named recipient of this coveted award for 1975; and
WHEREAS, SPARKY NIIMI, active in the scouting movement for
the past 35 years, organized Cub Packs, Boy Scout Troops and
Explorer Posts in the Puna District; and
WHEREAS, he was instrumental in the development of campsites
and in generating community interest and support of this worthy
cause; and
WHEREAS, in civic affairs, SPARKY NIIMI has participated
either as a member or as an official in the Puna Little League,
Puna Hongwanji Mission, Mt. View Veteran' s Club, Mt. View PTA,
Mt. View Japanese School PTA and Volcano Lions Club; and
WHEREAS, as a highly respected and successful owner-operator
of an anthurium farm, he has served as Presidents for the Hawaii
Nurserymen' s Association, Hawaii Anthurium Marketing Association
and the Hilo Shipper's Association.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it takes this means to recognize and extend
congratulations to SPARKY NIIMI for being accorded the Award of
Merit by the Boy Scouts of America.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit a true copy of
this resolution to SPARKY NIIMI.
