Resolution No. 505
WHEREAS , the County of Hawaii is faced with a glaringly
high rate of unemployment; and
WHEREAS , organized agricultural programs will provide
some necessary employment and economic development for the
State and County of Hawaii ; and
WHEREAS , the Island of Hawaii is fortunately blessed
with an adequate supply of fertile lands for a properly
coordinated agricultural program; and
WHEREAS , to attain a lower unemployment rate and to
boost the Island' s and State' s economy, the State lands located
in Panaewa, bearing Tax Map Key No. 2-2-48, containing 428.970
acres , more or less , and 53 . 10 A.C. E .O. 1176 , rubbish dump
site, could be created into a cooperative agricultural park
with a constructively guided guava and other agricultural production
program(s ) coordinated by the County of Hawaii with the conjunctive
aid of the University of Hawaii Extension and Research Services ,
NOW, THEREFORE , BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it goes on record as requesting that the
State Board of Land and Natural Resources transfer said acreage to
the County of Hawaii for a coordinated implementation of an
agricultural park program for guava and other agricultural pro-
duction.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and he is hereby directed to transmit true copies
of this resolution to Honorable Herbert T. Matayoshi , Mayor,
County of Hawaii ; Honorable Christopher Cobb, Chairman, State
Board of Land and Natural Resources ; Honorable John Fari as ,
Director, State Department of Agriculture; Honorable Hideto Kono,
Director, State Department of Planning and Economic Development;
the Honorable John T. Ushijima, President of the Senate; the
Honorable Stanley I. Hara, and the Honorable Richard Henderson,
Members of the State Senate from the Island of Hawaii ; the
Honorable James Wakatsuki , Speaker of the House of Representatives ;
the Honorable Yoshito Takamine, the Honorable Jack K. Suwa,
the Honorable Stanley H. Roehrig, the Honorable Minoru Inaba,
and the Honorable Herbert Segawa, Members of the State House
of Representatives from the Island of Hawaii ; and the Honorable
Larry Mehau, Member, State Board of Land and Natural Resources .
