Resolution No. 507
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs . Guy Stillman are very much
interested in the improvement of the Kohala District, County
of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, a portion of Kaauhuhu Homestead Road in North
Kohala, Hawaii, was merely a narrow dirt track with a 17%
grade and was only passable by 4-wheel drive vehicles ; and
WHEREAS, severe erosion problems on the said portion
of the road made the steep grade extremely burdensome for
County road crews to maintain; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Stillman recognized the need
to provide for an improvement of Kaauhuhu Homestead Road
to take care of the aforementioned problems; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs . Guy Stillman acted upon this
recognized need by purchasing necessary real property to
realign a portion of Kaauhuhu Homestead Road and provided
the County of Hawaii with a new County road built to the
County of Hawaii' s specifications; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs . Guy Stillman have dedicated the
new portion of Kaauhuhu Homestead Road to the County of
Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the value of the new portion of Kaauhuhu
Homestead Road dedicated to the County of Hawaii is as
follows:
$11, 379 . 20 - Value of land
23,714. 50 - Value of construction work
$35,093. 70 - Total
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that Mr. and Mrs. Guy Stillman be recognized
as outstanding citizens of the County of Hawaii and that their
generous gift in helping to provide for the County Road System
and the general welfare of the County be accepted with great
appreciation. It is hoped that the Stillmans ' generosity will
serve as an outstanding example of citizenship that others
will seek to emulate.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby instructed to transmit a true copy
of this resolution to Mr. and Mrs . Guy Stillman.
