RESOLUTION NO. 509
WHEREAS, our island community recently experienced natural
disasters which unfortunately caused the loss of human lives
and property damages; and
WHEREAS , it has been noted that during and after the crisis
heroic deeds were performed some of which were publicized while
others were not; and
WHEREAS, it took joint community action to avert more serious
losses, it also required community support to assist those most
adversely affected by the disaster; and
WHEREAS, it has been called to our attention that Messrs .
Don Wood, Ronald McNichols, Ed Kunishi and Rick Hansen, voluntarily
and unselfishly assisted boat owners by scanning the depths of the
Wailoa Boat Harbor in their SCUBA gear retrieving lost engines,
fishing equipment and other valuable items; and
WHEREAS, such needed "good Samaritan" efforts during a period
of stress and turmoil was much appreciated; and
WHEREAS , the initiative these gentlemen exemplifies the
attitude and cooperative spirit displayed by many of our people
during this period of recovery and hopefully return to normalcy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it hereby commends Messrs. Wood, McNichols, Kunishi
and Hansen for their humanitarian deeds.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be and is hereby directed to transmit copies of this resolution
to Messrs. Don Wood, Ronald McNichols, Ed Kunishi, and Rick Hansen.
