MiEREAS, in recent times, the district of Kohala has been
the focus of economic woes and adverse publicity; and
WHEREAS, despite these discomforting events, the scin-
tillating performance of the Kohala High School volleyball
team in capturing the Big Island Interscholastic Federation
1975 championship has refreshened the spirits of the residents
there with favorable news for a change; and
WHEREAS, the Kohala Cowboys' victory was especially sweet
in that they ended a ten year domination and a ten year consecutive
win streak by the Hilo High School Vikings in the BIIF after
placing second in two previous seasons; and
WHEREAS, the team, which featured defensive hustle and
extraordinary team spirit, emphasized well-disciplined coordination
and fielded a perfect 8 win and no loss record in league play; and
WHEREAS, in the State tourney, Kohala performed admirably
and finished in fourth place in games which were held at the
Mid-Pacific Institute gym and at the Honolulu International
Center; and
WHEREAS, the members of the 1975 championship Kohala High
School volleyball team include:
Captain Jay Sagucio, Steven McPeek, Lance Pagador,
Chris Cravalho, Glenn Mitchell, Michael Kaukini,
Jay Viernes, Clayton Corotan, Edward Iona, Darrel
Kapeliela, Clayton Javillo, Managers Robert McPeek

and Garin Poliahu, Head Coach Earl Veloria and
Assistant Coach Nolan Doliente.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it extend congratulations and best wishes
to the Kohala High School volleyball team for capturing the
1975 Big Island championship and for its fine performance at
the State tourney.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit true copies of
this resolution to Head Coach Earl Veloria, Assistant Coach
Nolan Doliente and to Principal William McPeek.
