RESOLUTION NO.
WHEREAS, RAYMOND SAVELLA, 39, a self-employed farmer
of Hilo, has been named the 1975 Sportsman of the Year; and
WHEREAS, RAYMOND SAVELLA' s claim to fame includes a
$250,000 appropriation from the State Legislature which he
secured for the purpose of constructing a community park in
the South Panaewa district; and
WHEREAS, he has organized, coached and managed T-Ball,
Little League and AJA baseball teams from Panaewa, devoting
countless hours to these programs; and
WHEREAS, RAYMOND SAVELLA was born in Kapehu, North Hilo,
and graduated from Laupahoehoe High School where he starred in
athletics and later returned to coach the Seasider alumni
basketball team; and
WHEREAS, in October because for a lack of a head coach
at Laupahoehoe High School, RAYMOND SAVELLA was approached to
fill this vacancy which he graciously accepted; and
WHEREAS, since November he has taken time from his
business and sports endeavors in Panaewa to commute 25 miles
daily up the coast and back for the boys at his old alma mater;
and
WHEREAS, the recognition of RAYMOND SAVELLA as 1975
Sportsman of the Year is an appropriate tribute to a man
who has avidly participated as an athlete, coach, manager and
developer of various sporting events,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it congratulate and extend best wishes
to RAYMOND SAVELLA on being named the 1975 Sportsman of the
Year.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby directedto transmit a true copy
of this Resolution to Raymond Savella.
