WHEREAS, the retirement of MR. & MRS. KAZUO nIYASAKI
on December 31, 1975, proprietors of the K. Tahara Vegetable
Store in downtown Hilo, marked the climax of an era and a
51 year record; and
WHEREAS, for over half a century, between the hours of
6 A.M. to 5 P.M. , they opened their vegetable store for
business continuously, including Christmas and New Year's
day; and
WHEREAS, the K. Tahara Vegetable Store, located on
270 Keawe Street, was once a thriving business elaploying
more than 20 persons and using seven or eight trucks for
pickup and delivery, plus five trucks which peddled vegetables
and staples in outlying districts; and
WHEREAS, despite the rigors of a long and rewarding
career, the MIYASAKIS were the devoted parents of five
daughters and two sons, all of whom brought joy into their
lives and assisted in the family enterprise; and
WHEREAS, the MIYASAKIS also owned and operated the Hilo
Dairy on 99 acres of leased land in another area before
World War II, in addition to the store; and
WHEREAS, in recent years , the K. Tahara Vegetable Store
became well known for its boiled peanuts, a Big Island favorite,
and was frequented by many loyal customers for their daily
newspapers; and
WHEREAS, MR. & MRS. KAZUO MIYASAKI, aged 72 and 68
respectively, will soon be celebrating their golden wedding
anniversary in June,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE
COUNTY OF HAWAII that it takes this means to extend congratula-
tions and best wishes to MR. & MRS. KAZUO MIYASAKI, proprietors
of the K. Tahara Vegetable Store upon their retirement and
continued prosperity and good health in the years ahead.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit a copyoof this
resolution to MR. & MRS. KAZUO MIYASAKI .
