WHEREAS, the World Championship Tennis (WCT) -Avis Challenge
Cuo Tournament will commence with its first of fifteen scheduled
tennis matches in Yeauhou-Kona, on Sunday, February 8 , 1976 ; ancl
WHEREAS, eight of the world's tor-ranked T'CT professionals
namely, John Alexander , Prthur 7she ; Bjorn F,org; Rod Laver; The
Nastase; John Newcombe; Raul Ramirez ; and Ken Rosewall will be
participating in what promises to be exciting, head-on winner-
take-all challenge matches; and
WHEREAS, the selection of Keauhou-Kona , County of Hawaii
as the site for this prestigious tennis event will provide Big
Islanders with a rare opportunity to watch tennis at its best;
and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii would like to extend its
appreciation to the sponsor of this event, the Avis Rent-A-Car
System, Inc. , which is being ably assisted by United and Aloha
Airlines, for their favoring our Island as the tournament site
and just as importantly, setting reasonable ticket prices which
will enable our local citizenry to enjoy this tennis extravaganza,
T7OW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it commends the Avis Rent-A-Car System, Inc. , United
Airlines, Aloha Airlines and World Championship Tennis for their
endeavors.
PE IT FURTHER RFSOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
he and is hereby instructed to remit true copies of this resolution
to each of them with the County Council 's wish for every success in
this WCT-Avis Challenge Cup Tournament.
