A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO `AHA PUNANA LEO
TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES FOR KE KULA '0 NAWAHIOKALANI`OPU`U IKI
LABORATORY PUBLIC CHARTER SCHOOL'S ION.
WHEREAS, `Aha Punana Leo is a 501(c)(3)Native Hawaiian nonprofit organization
whose mission is to revitalize and perpetuate the Hawaiian language; and
WHEREAS, Ke Kula '0 Nawahiokalani`opu`u Iki Laboratory Public Charter School is a
Hawaiian language school operating under `Aha Punana Leo and is designed for families,
teachers, and staff who have chosen to speak Hawaiian to develop, enhance, and maintain the
Hawaiian language through education in the home and school; and
WHEREAS, Ke Kula '0 Nawahiokalani`opu`u Iki Laboratory Public Charter School is
celebrating its 25th anniversary on May 18, 2019, and all previous graduating classes will return
on this day to share their life experiences to perpetuate the Hawaiian language and culture with
the current 200 graduates at a celebration called No `Ane`i Ko Kakou Ola; and
WHEREAS, `Aha Punana Leo is requesting funds to cover expenses for a rental facility
and meals for the charter school's No `Ane`i Ko Kakou Ola graduation celebration; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports drug- and alcohol-free events
that provide a safe and healthy environment for learning; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program,project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of
Liquor Control to provide a grant to `Aha Punana Leo to assist with expenses for Ke Kula '0
Nawahiokalani`opu`u Iki Laboratory Public Charter School's graduation celebration.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
