RESOLUTION NO. 154 19
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE NORTH
KOHALA COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER AS REIMBURSEMENT FOR
EXPENSES INCURRED BY THE KOHALA HIGH SCHOOL VEX ROBOTICS TEAM
FOR ITS ATTENDANCE AT THE 2019 VEX ROBOTICS WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
COMPETITION.
WHEREAS,the North Kohala Community Resource Center(NKCRC) is a 501(c)(3)
nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase the number of successful community
projects that benefit North Kohala; and
WHEREAS, the Kohala High School VEX Robotics program encompasses all four
pillars of STEM(science,technology, engineering, and mathematics) education as well as
important life skills, such as teamwork, communication, and creative and critical thinking; and
WHEREAS, the Kohala High School VEX Robotics team won the 2019 State of Hawai`i
High School VEX Robotics competition on Oahu, which earned the team a berth to the VEX
Robotics World Championship competition held in Louisville, Kentucky, in April 2019; and
WHEREAS,NKCRC has worked with the Kohala High School VEX Robotics team to
coordinate its travel, and is hereby requesting funds to reimburse the cost for registration fees for
the 2019 VEX Robotics World Championship competition; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports drug- and alcohol-free
programs and events that inspire youth to make positive life choices; and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of
Liquor Control to provide a grant to North Kohala Community Resource Center as
reimbursement for expenses incurred by the Kohala High School VEX Robotics team for its
attendance at the 2019 VEX Robotics World Championship competition.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
