.Y OF , <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII - •_ , ' /_} STATE OF HAWAII <br /> OF <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 162 19 <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO HUI OKINAWA TO <br /> ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO THE LOOCHOO STUDIES WORKSHOPS. <br /> WHEREAS, Hui Okinawa is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes Okinawan <br /> cultural awareness and provides education for its members and the general public; and <br /> WHEREAS, LooChoo Studies is a cultural, educational workshop focusing on <br /> Ryukyu/Okinawan history, culture, language, and performing arts; and <br /> WHEREAS,the monthly workshops foster a deeper understanding of Okinawan history, <br /> arts and language, and provide a venue for participants to participate in the multi-cultural <br /> indigenous language renaissance and revitalization movement; and <br /> WHEREAS, this monthly event is open to the public; and <br /> WHEREAS, as a part of its educational and cultural outreach programs, Hui Okinawa is <br /> a participant and sponsor of the LooChoo Studies workshops; and <br /> WHEREAS, Hui Okinawa is requesting funds for the expenses related to the workshops, <br /> including, but not limited to,printing of instructional material, advertising, community outreach, <br /> refreshments, and equipment and supplies needed for the classroom and other educational <br /> components of the workshops; and <br /> WHEREAS,the Department of Parks and Recreation supports programs and activities <br /> that bring cultural awareness and education to the people of Hawai`i Island; and <br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code, <br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via <br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, <br /> activity, service, equipment,materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that <br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Hui Okinawa to assist with expenses related to the <br /> LooChoo Studies workshops. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby <br /> transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below: <br />
