Lower Puna has a magnetic attraction to visitors. We need to use a portion of the monies from Bill 36 to recover a shoreline destination or two after we recover the roads to our communities that remain isolated or inaccessible. Cape Kumukahi, Pohoiki Park and Fox's Landing are perfect areas for oceanfront destinations. A swimming area ought to be developedin the most conducive area. Fox's landing has a willing seller and is approximately 40 oceanfront acres consisting of beautiful intact old coconut groves and ulu trees with other native plants and non-natives that can be enhanced with a cultural center centered around the archeological sites on the land. There could be trails for pedestrians and bicyclists. Bicyclists could ride on Chain of Craters road and bring needed revenue to the Hawaiian bicycle rental companies. If food trucks were to be permitted, local jobs could be created. It would be a wonderful gathering spot. The neighboring family, the Kaawaloas, have been approached about this idea and are in favor of a State park as a neighbor. They'd just like to have deeded access to the oceanfront area that is adjacent to their ancestral home, which consists of about 1.5 acres. I can elaborate if requested. Please spend the money in Lower Puna where the tourists will come to see the results of the natural disaster we incurred. We need roads, parks, infrastructure, trails and most of all, county support. Puna survived the lava flow and can thrive with the correct application of funded projects and adequate oversight of how the monies are spent. I would love to help any way that I can.
