A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO KE KAI ALA
FOUNDATION TO ASSIST WITH THE WAI`AHA ROOTS BODYBOARDING SURF
CONTEST.
WHEREAS, the Ke Kai Ala Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose
mission is to contribute to the wellbeing of Hawai`i's youth, environmental conservation, and
cultural traditions through sustainable community gatherings on the Island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Ke Kai Ala Foundation is coordinating the Wai`aha Roots Bodyboarding
Surf Contest, which will be held at Wai`aha Beach Park on June 8, 2019; and
WHEREAS, participants of this event will beautify and malama the Wai`aha Beach Park
by removing litter and weeding the park; and
WHEREAS, Ke Kai Ala Foundation is requesting funds to assist with expenses for
fliers, trophies, food service ware, and t -shirts; and
WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Parks and Recreation Department is to provide
services and opportunities that meet the needs of the Big Island community while maintaining
cultural uniqueness of our rich heritage, diversity, and the aloha spirit while partnering with and
pursuing help from persons and groups to improve and maintain recreational facilities and
enhance programs; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 7 will be appropriated to the Department of
Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to Ke Kai Ala Foundation to assist with the Wai`aha
Roots Bodyboarding Surf Contest.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
