A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO D.A.R.E. HAWAII
FOR THE 2019 DARE DAY CELEBRATION EVENT IN WEST HAWAII.
WHEREAS, D.A.R.E. HAWAII is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established 31
years ago to teach our youth to make safe and responsible decisions, to resist alcohol, drugs,
tobacco, and violence, to avoid risky situations, and to lead a safe and healthy life; and .
WHEREAS, D.A.R.E. HAWAII is conducting a West Hawa'i'i DARE Day, to
commemorate the graduation of students from various schools in West Hawaii, who complete
the DARE 10 -week Drug Abuse Resistance Educational curriculum; and
WHEREAS, D.A.R.E. HAWAII has requested funds to pay for student activities and
prizes for those who will be attending this celebration to recognize their achievement; and
WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Hawaii Police Department is to support youth
programs, such as D.A.R.E. HAWAII, that promote alcohol- and drug-free events that teach our
youth to make safe and responsible choices; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Hawaii Police
Department to provide a grant to D.A.R.E. HAWAII for student activities and prizes for its
2019 DARE Day Celebration event in West Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Chief of Police and Director of Finance, and that the Director of Finance is
hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this resolution.
