SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT
Mamaki Street, Lama Street, Makalika Street and Railroad Avenue
35 mph and 45 mph speed limits
We have been asked to authorize speed limits along Mamaki Street, Lama
Street, and Makalika Street. A speed study was conducted and we find
35 mph to be the appropriate speed limit for these roadways.
Railroad Avenue was re-evaluated and we conclude the existing speed limit
of 35 mph should be raised to 45 mph. We discussed these proposals with
the Police Department and they have no objections.
We request the Hawaii County Code, Chapter 24, Article 10, Section 24-257,
Schedule 5 (35 mile per hour limit) be amended. Delete item in Section
24-257, Schedule 5 (ref. Ord. 91-67) and add new item to Section 24-260,
Schedule 8 (45 mile per hour limit).
